AEDs Save Lives

Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States and accounts for 13% of all workplace fatalities, according to OSHA. An automated external defibrillator (AED) used on a victim within three minutes of cardiac arrest increases their chance of survival by 70%. Having an easy to use, readily accessible AED in the workplace is crucial to saving lives, especially in remote communities.

AMLJIA and Matheson Tri-Gas have partnered to offer the Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 AED with iCPR Feedback. Easy to use and maintain, this unit conducts daily, weekly, and monthly self-tests to ensure the device is “Rescue Ready” when tragedy strikes. The G5 even coaches the rescuer through effective American Heart Association CPR by delivering corrective prompts, if needed.

Please contact Mike Stoddard at Matheson Tri-Gas, 907-563-6644, or Chad Russell at Cardiac Science, 425-247-4403, for more information about how to take advantage of this exclusive offer for AMLJIA members.

Beware of Misleading Sales Practices

The AMLJIA regularly hears from members who report receiving phone calls and letters notifying them that they could face stiff fines if they do not comply with mandatory labor law posting requirements. The phone calls often start with “I’m ready to complete your order” and the letters appear to come from a federal or state regulatory agency. Their threatening tone implies that you have little choice but to take immediate action to avoid severe penalties.

These calls and letters are not from any federal or state agency but from companies which employ forceful sales tactics to exploit legitimate businesses. They offer to “fix” your compliance problem by providing you an all-in-one labor law poster that meets state and federal posting requirements. The fee for this poster can run as high as $100 plus shipping charges, and a subscription to automatic updates is strongly encouraged—for an additional fee—to prevent future noncompliance.

A legitimate company should never send threatening letters or intimidate you into purchasing a product. All required labor law notices are available through the Alaska Department of Labor, but the AMLJIA has already compiled all the information into a convenient poster. It is available at no cost to AMLJIA members. Call 800-337-3682 or email rochellem@amljia.org to request a labor law poster.
